It has finally happened. Audemars Piguet has announced the launch of first-ever platinum Royal Oak “Jumbo” with a green sunburst dial. This is exciting in aspects. For starters, having a sunburst green dial in the Royal Oak Jumbo is a welcome addition. The Royal Oak Jumbo reference 15202 will definitely become a hot item in the Haute Horlogerie industry. Audemars Piguet, needless to say, is a top tier luxury watchmaker. As a matter of fact, the Swiss watchmaker is often referred to as one of the top three or the ‘Holy Trinity’ of Swiss luxury watchmaking.
The New Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ Green Dial
The launch of the new green dial Royal Oak is not only a welcome surprise but also a sign that the brand is ready to try newer things. Watch enthusiasts worldwide couldn’t be any happier.
First Impressions

The watch looks ecstatic, to be honest. It retains the signature Royal Oak Jumbo 39 mm case size and a see-through display case back. Now, Audemars Piguet is not a shy brand. The watchmaker has always been open to bold moves when it comes to its watches. However, the green dial is a different, it is special. Why, you ask? Well, green seems to be a mid-point between extremely bold and playing it extremely safe. It’s surely a first for the Swiss horologist.
The reference 15202 sets a precedent. The no chronograph, no tourbillon, and no complication model is kind of the best way to define Audemars Piguet’s popularity among watch enthusiasts. The watch seems to have a decently lustrous sunburst aesthetic. The smoked detail on the dial offers a contrasting effect towards the dial’s edges. The white gold hands and hour markers are luminescent. A closer look at the date display will tell you that it blends just perfectly with the dial’s colour theme. The way the dial’s green colour fades into the date display’s colour’s theme, it’s exceptional.
Getting Into The Details

The ‘ultra-thin’ watch will have a 39 mm wide and 8.1 mm thick 950 platinum case. The dial colour, as mentioned above, will be an alluring sunburst green. The indexes will be applied as well as luminescent. On the water resistance front, the watch will be protected to a depth of 50 meters. Lastly, this Royal Oak timepiece will indeed have an integrated full platinum bracelet.
Audemars Piguet chose the calibre 2121 for the new Royal Oak Jumbo. This does not come as a surprise, though. The watch will be equipped with a solid gold winding mass along with tracking hours, minutes, and of course, a date display. The Royal Oak has now long been associated with this automatic movement for a really long time. As far as watch connoisseurs are concerned, for them it is a treat to get a peek of the movement at work via the see-through case back. For those who are unaware, Audemars Piguet’s super thin automatic movement 2121 is only 3.05 mm in thickness. The mechanism offers a power reserve of 40 hours while sprinting at a frequency of 19,800 VPH.
