The 2020 limited edition Reverso is a collaboration between Argentine bespoke bootmaker Casa Fagliano, a long time JLC partner and of course, Jaeger LeCoultre.
Getting Into The Details
The timepiece is available in a red gold case measuring at 47 mm x 28.3 mm x 10.3 mm. the dimensions alone are enough to intrigue watch enthusiasts. The watch is powered by the manually-wound Jaeger LeCoultre caliber 854A/2. The cordovan leather and canvas strap surely adds a lot of panache to the watch as well. There will be exactly 190 pieces produced which is a direct reference to the fact that 2021 will be the 90th year anniversary of the debut of Reverso watch.
First Impressions
The idea of creating the first Reverso originated out of the need to protect the dial of the watch during the rigorous conditions of a Polo match. It was a very practical reason. Therefore, the watch received a single dial that could be protected simply by turning the case 1 complete 180 degrees on an axis.
The 2020 Special Edition Reverso has a twist to it. Instead of a solid case back, it has a second time zone display. Now, it can be said that the whole purpose of having a reversible case is defeated. But that’s the thing. Just because it can be, does not mean it’s true. As the luxury watch market evolves, so do the needs of buyers. Not everyone who buys these exquisite timepieces plays Polo. In essence, the Reverso is a highly versatile watch that can be molded into whatever it needs to be molded into.
The fact that this tiny creation can host such a high end complication speaks volumes about it as well as the brand. The idea of elegance excelling over utility seems unbelievable at first. However, in order to remain at a significant position of power and value, sometimes bold steps need to be taken. In a world that appears to be obsessed with stainless steel sports timepieces, to be a watch made of precious with a sporty spirit is a tough task. Honest Opinion
The Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso has always been an icon, be it in terms of classical horology or be it aesthetics. The Reverso comes out on top as one of the few watches in history to have such an impact. The same can be said about the Reverso Tribute Duoface Fagliano Limited Edition.
The reference Q398256J, as mentioned earlier, will be produced in just 150 pieces. The 18-carat pink gold case is as majestic as ever while the silver clous de Paris guilloche and burgundy lacquer dial complements it perfectly. The applied gold indexes seems to be a match made in heaven and so does the Casa Fagliano made cordovan leather and canvas strap. The 30-meter water resistance isn’t much but it will suffice.
