Iconic, luxurious and pioneering these three words easily surmise the entire legacy of Audemars Piguet. Launched in 1875 by childhood friends Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet in Switzerland, the brand today is known for its distinctive style and its complex movements. With its launch of the Royal Oak in the 1970s, its establishment within the universe of fine watchmaking was indubitably cemented. The luxury watch brand is always looking to push the envelope on fine watches which is why its latest launch created such an impact!

Unveiled at one of the world’s most premier expositions for fine watches, Salon Internationale de la Haute Horlogie 2019, Audemars Piguet’s new watch family CODE 11.59 is an ode to the art and science of watchmaking, which sets the tone right from the name. CODE is an abbreviation standing for Challenge, Own, Dare & Evolve a heady term to live up to. The 11.59 stands for the last minute before a new day begins, symbolizing excitement and always being one step ahead.

The CODE 11.59 created a splash of great magnitude with its launch. With 13 references, 6 models and 3 new calibres, this new watch family is an absolute game-changer for Audemars Piguet.

When it comes to design, the CODE 11.59 makes an impact with its deceptively simple design. Modern in approach and thinking, the design satisfies the aesthetic preferences of both men and women. Reliant on form, the round dial is, in fact, an octagonal one (harking back to its Royal Oak design!), just hidden under its surface. At 41mm in diameter, the slim watch looks great on both men and women.

Moreover, what really catches our eye, is the use of innovative materials. The Rose Gold Perpetual Calendar is perhaps the most striking with its dreamy constellation-esque dial. Crafted from Aventurine glass and a bit of cobalt and black copper oxide, the cooling process created a stunning night-time view of the stars, just right there at your wrist. Talk about dreamers!

As Michael Freidman, historian at Audemars Piguet and part of the team that launched CODE 11.59 says, a watch we knew had to be unapologetically contemporary. It had to be something of today and of tomorrow. When you look through the history of AP watches, there’s this uninterrupted history of high unconventionality with regards to case form and dial design, and that’s no accident.
